Gaby Babić

Gaby Babić (* 1976 in Frankfurt am Main) is a German film and media scholar who works as a curator and cultural manager. From 2018 she headed the Kinothek Asta Nielsen e. V. in Frankfurt am Main together with Karola Gramann; since 2020 she has been its sole managing director and artistic director.¹

Life

Gaby Babić’s parents came to Frankfurt am Main from the former Yugoslavia in the mid-1960s. Her mother came from the region of Dalmatia (today Croatia), her father from Bosnia, today’s Bosnia and Herzegovina. Babić grew up between Bornheim and Frankfurt’s Ostend district.² She studied theatre, film and media studies, German studies and political science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University and in Paris.³⁴ She wrote her master’s thesis (Magisterarbeit) on Geschichte und Film. Curator and cultural manager

From 2005 to 2007, Babić was programme coordinator at the Goethe-Institut Sarajevo, responsible for events, readings and exhibitions across all cultural fields.¹⁴ There, among other things, in 2006 she organised (and conceived together with the historians Emily G. Balić and Paul B. goEast – Festival des mittel- und osteuropäischen Films

From September 2010 to October 2017, Babić directed seven editions of the film festival goEast – Festival des mittel- und osteuropäischen Films (Festival of Central and Eastern European Film) in Wiesbaden.
